Over the course of the next five months, the Cape Breton Partnership will be coordinating a Human Resource study for the Green Energy Sector in Cape Breton/Mulgrave. This project aims to discover potential human resource gaps that exist in Cape Breton with regards to green energy projects and project development. The end result will be the development of recommendations for skills development and training options.
The Green Energy Project will take place in four distinct phases each aimed at creating an informed snapshot and discussion of the current Green Energy sector in Cape Breton/Mulgrave.
Phase One [COMPLETED]
A survey will be conducted with current, future and prospective green energy projects taking place in Cape Breton. This will include both large and small scale projects. It is expected that this phase of the project will be completed in two months.
Phase Two [ACTIVE]
A follow up survey aimed at uncovering the human resource and skills requirements necessary to carry out these various green energy projects. In addition, it will provide a current skills profile for the Cape Breton workforce. The result will be a gap analysis of the Cape Breton workforce’s ability to fulfill the Human Resource requirements of the green energy sector; this phase will take place over the course of one month.
Phase Three
A survey of the available training and skill development programs related to green energy that exist in other jurisdictions. The result will be a list of recommendations for potential curriculum and program options for local training institutions. Again, this phase will last one month.
Phase Four
In the final month of the project, the findings from each phase will be compiled in a comprehensive report that will identify the current and future green energy projects planned for Cape Breton, employment requirements, skills gaps and shortages, and training options.
All four phases of the project will take place under the guidance of a steering committee. Members of the steering committee will be respected community leaders and experts in the renewable energy sector. Over the course of the five months, the steering committee will provide feedback on the survey and survey results and ensure the project methodology is sound and the results are reliable.
